Schema Markup for B2B and Manufacturing Sites: Organization, Product, Service and FAQ

By the Leadee team at Netbase JSC · Updated

Schema markup is a block of JSON-LD code on a page that states facts about your company — name, address, products, services — in a format machines read directly instead of guessing from prose. For a manufacturer or B2B service company, the short list that matters is Organization (or LocalBusiness), Service or Product, BreadcrumbList, and sameAs links to your real social and directory profiles. Google requires none of these fields, but AI engines read whichever ones are actually present.

Key facts

  • Google's own Organization structured-data guidance lists no required properties at all — name, logo, sameAs and contactPoint are all only "recommended," which means partial markup is still valid, not broken. (Google Search Central, 2026)
  • Google's structured-data policies require JSON-LD, Microdata or RDFa markup to describe what is actually on the page, and explicitly forbid using it to impersonate a person or organization. (Google Search Central, 2026)
  • Google deprecated the FAQPage rich result in Google Search, removing it from search results starting May 7, 2026 — adding FAQPage no longer earns a Google rich snippet, though the underlying Q&A structure can still help an AI engine parse your questions and answers. (Google Search Central, 2026)
  • Leadee's own check scores a page across seven signals — Organization/LocalBusiness, sameAs, logo, contactPoint, WebSite, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage — and reports exactly which ones are missing, not just a pass/fail; see the entity check tool.

Organization or LocalBusiness: which one, and what goes in it?

Use Organization for a manufacturer, distributor or B2B service company that sells to other businesses, usually without walk-in customers. Use LocalBusiness instead when customers physically visit a location — a branch office, a showroom, a service depot — since LocalBusiness adds address and opening-hours fields Organization does not have.

Neither type has a required field by Google's own rules, but a useful one states name, url, logo, and sameAs (links to your real LinkedIn, industry directory and review-site profiles) at minimum, plus contactPoint when you have a specific sales or support line to point to.

Service vs Product: which type for a manufacturer or B2B supplier?

Product fits a specific, orderable item — a part number, a material grade, a finished good with a SKU. Service fits something delivered rather than shipped — contract manufacturing, logistics, consulting, installation. Many B2B sites need both: Product for the catalogue, Service for the capability pages ("CNC machining," "freight forwarding") that do not map to a single SKU.

Both types carry a `provider` or `manufacturer` link back to your Organization node, which is what lets an AI engine connect "who makes this" to the company entity rather than treating the product as unowned.

Is FAQPage still worth adding?

Google removed the FAQPage rich result from Search results in May 2026, so marking up your FAQ no longer earns the expandable snippet it once did in Google. That is a Google Search rich-result decision, not a statement about AI engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity and similar tools read schema.org vocabulary directly from the page, and a clearly marked question-and-answer structure can still help one of them quote the right answer to the right question.

The honest summary: do not add FAQPage expecting a Google snippet, since that benefit is gone. It is still reasonable to keep or add it as a low-cost structural signal for AI engines, alongside — never instead of — writing the actual FAQ content a buyer would read.

What does this look like for a manufacturer or industrial supplier specifically?

A contract manufacturer's homepage typically carries one Organization node (name, logo, sameAs to its LinkedIn page and any trade-association or directory listing such as Thomasnet) plus one Service node per capability it sells — "CNC machining," "sheet metal fabrication," "injection moulding" — each with a short `description` and a `provider` link back to the Organization. A distributor selling a fixed catalogue instead marks up Product for each line it stocks, with `manufacturer` pointing at the actual brand it distributes, not itself, when it does not make the item.

Getting the provider/manufacturer direction right matters more than most of the individual fields: an AI engine trying to answer "who makes X" or "who can machine Y near me" is reading that relationship, not just the presence of a Product or Service node on its own.

Where do I actually paste schema markup, per platform?

  • WordPress: Yoast SEO and RankMath both generate Organization/WebSite JSON-LD automatically once you fill in Search Appearance > Organization (or Person), including logo and sameAs — verify the output rather than hand-writing it.
  • Shopify: default themes already emit Product/Organization JSON-LD; if it is missing, check Online Store > Themes > Edit code for a "structured-data" or "json-ld" snippet your theme should include on product and home pages.
  • Wix: Settings > SEO Tools > SEO Settings reads your Business Info (Settings > Business Info) to auto-generate Organization/LocalBusiness JSON-LD — fill in logo, address and social links there, not in a code panel.
  • Webflow: Webflow does not auto-generate Organization schema; add it as a `<script type="application/ld+json">` block under Project Settings > Custom Code > Head code.
  • Any platform without a built-in option: paste a single `<script type="application/ld+json">` block containing the JSON directly before the closing `</head>` tag.

How do I check my schema markup is actually valid?

Paste the page's rendered HTML (view-source, not the page preview) into a JSON-LD validator and confirm it parses with no syntax errors, then check that every type you intended — Organization, Product, Service, BreadcrumbList — actually appears and that required-looking fields like `name` and `url` are filled in, not placeholder text.

Leadee's own entity check tool does this automatically: it extracts whatever JSON-LD or microdata a page carries and reports which of the seven common entity signals are present versus missing, free and with no sign-up.

Questions

Do I need Organization and LocalBusiness, or just one?

Just one, matching how customers actually reach you — Organization for a company without a customer-facing location, LocalBusiness for one with a physical address customers visit.

Will adding schema markup make my site show up more in ChatGPT or Gemini?

It helps an AI engine understand and verify who you are once it has already found your page — it is not a ranking signal, and there is no guarantee tied to adding it. Crawler access and real content still have to be in place first; see [AI crawlers and robots.txt](/learn/ai-crawlers-robots-txt).

Should I remove FAQPage markup now that Google dropped the rich result?

You do not have to remove it — it is not penalized, and it can still help an AI engine read your Q&A structure. Just do not expect a Google Search snippet from it any more, and do not skip writing real FAQ content assuming the markup alone does the work.

What's the fastest way to see what schema I'm already missing?

Run Leadee's [free entity check](/tools/entity-check) on your homepage — it lists which of Organization, sameAs, logo, contactPoint, WebSite, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage it found versus missed, in under a minute.

Can I use Microdata or RDFa instead of JSON-LD?

Yes — Google's structured-data guidelines accept JSON-LD, Microdata or RDFa equally. JSON-LD is the most common choice because it sits in one script block instead of being woven through your visible HTML, which makes it easier to update without breaking page layout.

Can GEO guarantee results?

No. AI answer engines change their output frequently, and no vendor — including Leadee — can guarantee a ranking or a mention. Leadee publishes confidence intervals on every metric so you can see how much a result can vary run to run.

How does Leadee measure AI visibility?

Leadee runs your prompt set against each AI engine on a weekly to daily schedule, depending on plan, through official vendor APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, Perplexity, Anthropic, DataForSEO) — never by scraping consumer chat interfaces — and reports mention rate, citation rate, average position, share of voice and sentiment with a 95% confidence interval.
